Home -> Customers going green

A recent survey shows that more and more home owners who make improvements on their properties are opting to use environmentally friendly products, while the products and materials who are explicitly aggressive to nature are becoming less popular. The so-called “green trend” is already having a profound impact on the home owner insurance market.
Numbers show that over 10% of all householders in the country are choosing to use reclaimed materials in their houses, while 64% of householders plan to do so in the future, when they decide to make new improvements on their properties. The study also revealed that the internet is playing a substantial role in this trend. The web it's not only being considered a good research tool to find constructors using environmentally friendly materials, but also is an important tool to spread the idea of ecological homebuilding. However, a significant number of home owners declared that they will only move to green alternatives for what they called a “fair price”.
Constructors confirm this trend by saying that home improvements such as the installation of solar panels and wind turbines as well as the use of recycled or natural materials are becoming increasingly popular, together with other more traditional improvements such as fireplaces and baths.
Insurance companies, on their side, are welcoming the new trend with some enthusiasm. Many companies across the country already offer substantial discounts for home owner insurance clients who opt for natural alternatives. However, specialists draw attention to the fact that many green improvements require permission from local council, what may be a minor concern for some homeowners who decide to make their properties more keen to the environment.
